I live in the City of Decatur with my wife, Courtenay, and our two sons. We came to Decatur for the schools, walkability and community. With the encouragement of Commissioner Drake, I helped found the Downtown Decatur Neighbors to give voice to the concerns of downtown residents. I also was a co-founder of the Decatur Parents Network, whose goal is to strengthen ties between Decatur Public School parents in order to promote a nurturing environment that encourages kids to make safe, smart decisions. I have served as Secretary of the Decatur High PTSA and am a graduate of the 2017 Class of Leadership DeKalb.
Over the years, I have held leadership positions with EarthShare of Georgia, Historic Oakland Foundation, the BeltLine Network, Candler Park Neighborhood Organization and Friends of Candler Park, among other organizations.
I grew up in Chapel Hill, NC, graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and hold a Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law. After law school, I spent ten years working for Congressman John Lewis’, serving as his Legislative Director in Washington D.C. and District Director in Atlanta. I left the Congressman's office to serve as Executive Director for Park Pride and then as Commissioner for Parks & Recreation for the City of Atlanta. For the past three years, I have been the Georgia-Alabama State Director for The Trust for Public Land, a non-profit dedicated to preserving land and building parks for people.
In my free time, I enjoy tennis, bicycling, bridge and spending time outdoors with my family.
