Decatur is growing - and changing - fast. Since 2013, more than 900 new apartments have been built or are under construction inside our city. Over that same period, enrollment in the City Schools of Decatur had increased from less than 4000 students to about 5700. All of that development has resulted in further deterioration of our tree canopy and stress on our transportation system - while doing little to alleviate the shortage of affordable housing.
We still have an opportunity to help define what Decatur can become: greener, pedestrian-friendly, diverse, accessible for all income levels and an even better place to live. As the campaign progresses, I will post issue statements on this website. Below are the topics that I plan to address.
